The Qualcomm winds have started to blow in the processor market led by Intel and AMD. The company, which made a big impact with its artificial intelligence computer processor Snapdragon X series, is now facing a new competitor. New details have emerged for the NVIDIA x MediaTek PC processor.
NVIDIA x MediaTek team up for AI PC processor
MediaTek and NVIDIA have begun joint development of a processor for AI computers, according to a new report. Accordingly, the company is preparing to launch the first model in the first half of next year. The chipset, codenamed Changbai, will be a product of the two companies’ CPU and GPU expertise.
MediaTek will bring its efficiency and performance expertise in mobile chips, while NVIDIA will bring its strengths in graphics processing. According to the report, it will be manufactured on TSMC’s 3nm process node and will use ARM-based CPU cores.
The Changbai chip is aimed at the artificial intelligence computing market, currently dominated by the Qualcomm Snapdragon series. Thanks to NVIDIA’s participation, the new processor is expected to handle AI tasks such as image and video processing.
For MediaTek, the Changbai chip allows it to leverage NVIDIA’s technologies to compete against rivals like Qualcomm. With this partnership, the hardware giant will also enter the AI PC market.
Following Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC move, the AI PC market is likely to grow rapidly in the coming years. MediaTek and NVIDIA’s joint chipset could also make a big impact at a time when companies like Intel and AMD are struggling.
